METAPHOR

Metaphors are used in some of the best poetry to ever be created. A Metaphor is when a term is applied to to something unusual to show a resemblance. An example of a metaphor that i hear frequently in life is " He's quiet as a church mouse". Church mouse in that seeing is used to illustrate the intensity of the silence of that person. A metaphor is clearly just a way to describe something with exaggerated terms. In poetry metaphors emphasize emotion and feelings. If someone was to say " shes hungry as a dog " , that would be a metaphor exaggerating the hunger of a female.

"Yet one rude wind" from the poem A Meditation for his Mistress is a strong metaphor. A wind can't really be rude but the author used it to try and express the severity of a harsh wind. The metaphors in this poem is used to explain the existence of his mistress. He refers to her as " A Danity Rose " which is a small and pretty rose a metaphor to express the beauty of his mistress.

Emily Dickinson is a author who also expresses creativity with metaphors in her works of poetry. In the poem " I'm Nobody! Who Are You? " Emily Dickinson uses the metaphor "How public, like a frog" To express the severity of who the person was and how they live publically.

Metaphors are used by so many great poets for so many great reasons. One of the largest groups of people who use metaphors to exaggerate a statement is actually rappers. Many don't notice most of the metaphors while they're listening because thats not what they'te listening for. The late rapper Tupac Shakur Wrote a poem titled "can you see the pride in the panther". The title alone is a strong metaphor. When you think of panthers you don't usually associate them with pride, But this was different the panther was an example of the "African American" male or female and the metaphor was used to underline the eagerness and importance if they're pride.
